7 Weight Fly Rods

There are a few fly rod weights that we consider “specialized” weights and the seven-weight fits squarely into this category, along with the nine-weight. This is a fly rod for anglers who know exactly what types of fish they’re targeting and how they’re targeting them. The seven-weight is an introduction into the big-game territory, but still has a bit more delicacy and feel than the bigger models. It’s an incredible bass rod, does very well fishing for pike, is a great carp rod, and also is ideal when fishing streamers for big trout like browns. You can also get away with some inland saltwater fishing as well, for species like redfish and trout. If you live in places like Texas, Louisiana, or any other area that offers a lot of bass and saltwater fishing, this may be a great choice for you.

You can find several different seven-weight rods in our inventory, including the Drifter, which is a perfect introduction to the sport of fly fishing—we offer a switch model in the Drifter as well. Seven-weight is the lowest weight we offer in our saltwater Outcast rod as well, with corrosion-resistant materials. You can also pick up our Vesper rod in 9’ or 10’ options, complete with industry-leading materials and unmatched performance on the water.

Regardless of which rod you choose, our seven-weight rods are built to the highest standards—distinctive styles inspired by classic design, custom reel seats made with unique burled hardwoods, hand-turned cork grips, and more. Each of our seven-weight rods is the perfect balance of value and craftsmanship, proof that you don’t need to shell out for a second mortgage to have a great day on the water. If you have a question about which rod weight is right for you, or which model fits your needs, be sure to reach out to us at info@moonshinerods.com. Cheers to tight lines and we’ll see you out there.
