    Hands-down, the Best!!!

Awesome Rod! I am back today on Moonshine’s website looking for my third rod from them. I just realized I hadn’t given this rod review since I bought it for my Tarpon trip to Holbox a year ago. Prior to my trip, I had purchased a 5 weight , Drifter for fishing around home here in Montana. Hey, recommendation from a friend. I was so happy with number one, the performance of my new Drifter, then there warranty, the extra tip and the veterans discount. I decided when purchasing a new rod for this tarpon trip that I would also look at what was available at Moonshine. After looking at comparisons and price, I decided to go with Moonshine again . The Outcast Salt 8 weight.

Prior trips tarpon fishing I’ve gone with TFO and Sage. They were good rods, don’t get me wrong. But I would still say that in my opinion, The Moonshine Outcast salt definitely outperformed. And that’s not including all the extra benefits of the extra tip, warranty and discount. It ended up being a great trip. I caught lots of tarpon and it was a perfect few days on the water. Even the guide caught a tarpon on my rod and was impressed..

The only bad thing about the trip is I left my damn water bottle in the shuttle after fishing. Oh, and the mosquitoes and Holbox are ridiculous!!!

Once again I’m back here on there website, looking for a 3- weight for small creek fishing. Time to trade up the Orvis.

Flyfishing my whole life, I can honestly say I feel like Moonshine rods is one of the best rod companies…

    Light and Fast

This rod is very light, both in actual weight and swing weight. The build quality and components seem to be good. I like the unsanded blank and the finish color. It is a great value for the price.

    Wow!!

First off, I was very impressed with the components and workmanship of the rod. I build fly rods myself and appreciate the details in the wraps, the reel seat, the grips and the quality of the guides. Not to mention the beautiful blank and choice of thread material. Just took the rod out today in howling wind chasing stripers, blues and albies. The rod loads nicely, has a nice fast taper but doesn't feel like a 2x4 and is able to punch big flies directly into the wind. I have fished a lot of Sage, Orvis, Powell and Winston rods and this rod casts as nicely as any of the others. What I thought initially might be a "back-up" 10wt has moved toward the front of the queue!! Thank you Moonshine!! I was so impressed I just picked up a 9wt!!

    Great rod

Awesome rod for chasing small mouth bass. Great to cast and versatile rod. It can throw streamers on a sink tip and also delivers delicate top water patterns. I’ve cast other rods that are double the price and don’t feel as good to me. Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for an upgrade without breaking the bank.
